the story of villa alexina

How it all started

Alex and David first came to Greece as students in the days when you could escape into the world of dependable sun, simple mediterranean food, local wine and live the idyll with other like-minded travellers with just a few drachmas in your pocket.

They became committed Philhellenes escaping to Greece to refuel from busy lives, until they decided one day to leave it all behind and throw caution to the wind and move to Greece. Corfu was selected because they found the perfect house; a four hundred year old Venetian Manor house, neglected and empty for 28 years.  Bringing this imposing property back to life has been a labour of love; with many trials and testing times associated with battles such as this.

Like the Forth Bridge, there is always something to improve, replace or redesign. Dave and Alex love receiving visitors to enjoy the historic ambience, space and traditional setting on the edge of the village. You have the opportunity to share the experience of Villa Alexina, whose spacious grounds envelope large groups or families.  The Ashcrofts have been developing the villa for almost twenty years and receiving visitors for over ten, many of whom have contributed ideas and suggestions which have been incorporated. The visitors book is testament to how many people believe this place to be a magical place for a very special holiday.
